Generally, when people think of ways to stay healthy they assume that physical health is the only thing they need to worry about....
However, you can be in the best physical shape and be mentally, emotionally, sexually, or even morally unhealthy. Sometimes it can be very difficult maintaining good health in all of these areas because they can often be intertwined.
First, let's start with the most common area which is physical health. For some maintaining good physical health is easy, others not so much. Ensuring that my body stays in good condition starts with the foods that I eat. Eating lots of raw fruits and vegetables is a great start. Always try to eat a balanced diet and monitor your proportion sizes. Taking daily vitamins is also good because sometimes we don't get all of what our bodies need from food alone.
Next, it is crucial that I stay active whether it is through exercising or some sort of organizational involvement that requires a lot of movement. Try to do something that elevates your heart rate 2-3 times a week. The longer I remain inactive the harder it will be to get back in shape.
Finally, I want to be sure to visit the doctor for a basic check up at least twice a year. A doctor helps me stay healthy. They help prevent anyone from becoming unhealthy; they screen you to find out if there is anything that needs to be improved; they can provide you with treatment to help you regain your health.
When I am sexually active, this is a physical act when done the old fashioned way, I frequently ask the doctor more often for STD and HIV testing. However, to greatly reduce my chances of contracting any STIs or HIV/ AIDS, I make sure to use a condom every time I have sex.
Don't allow yourself to be tricked into believing that love is enough protection...because it's not.
When partaking in any form of sex, I make sure my partner is clean as far personal hygiene. Especially engaging in oral or anal, an unclean partner can put you at risk for several bacterial infections.
I try to know my partner- while random sex can be fun and even pleasurable it is unsafe to let anyone into your personal PERSONAL space without any knowledge of the person. And a first and last name or how many brothers and sisters do you have does not constitute being knowledgeable about someone.
"If you can't wrap it up, then don't unwrap it."
While sexual intercourse itself is physical it also mental and emotional, whether or not these effects are good or bad is dependent on the person. This is why I say know your partner.

OH I rather in enjoyed this! This boy has the right ideas. It may be fun to run around and randomly canoodle but scientists have just discovered a new strand of gonorrhea that is resistant to all antibiotics!!! that should be more than enough for you to question all men trying to enter your fun box.
ReplyDeleteYes! Robert surely has the right idea. Communication is a huge part in building healthy relationships and even bigger in maintaining good sexual health. As Gay men, we tend to sexualize most encounters with other men because it is within our male make-up to do so. Without even thinking, we make decisions, wrong or right, only thinking about the now and not the long term effect if something goes wrong. I love the fact that Robert, at 21, wants to know and learn more about who the person is before hitting the sheets.
ReplyDeletegreat great piece
