Being healthy for me starts within and moves outwards.
Having and maintaining a healthily perspective by keeping life in the here and now, staying focused on what is (as opposed to what is imagined), and taking the time to meditate are the foundation of me being healthily. A clear understanding of where I am in the present and a calm responsive, not reactive, approach to life give me the emotional foundation that allows me to continue to do the things that keep me healthy.
Self awareness, compassion, and allowing myself to love and be loved provide the self esteem that keeps me in a place of caring, to care for myself I must care about myself, accepting my strengths and forgiving my weaknesses.
Being healthy emotionally also allows me to treat others in a healthy way, when I drive or when I deal with difficult people and to remain centered even when life does not go ‘my way’.
To me, staying healthy sexually is about communication and information. Asking questions of myself and a potential sexual partner while negotiating the risks I am willing to take with an individual are an important part of staying healthy sexually. Knowing my emotional and physical limits, knowing the status of my partner and choosing to play appropriately, allow me to freely enjoy sex and my playmate without fear, shame or guilt.
Physically I exercise, eat as healthy as I can while still enjoying food, get a regular checkup and listen to my body.
Healthy is as healthy does.
