Healthy holes are happy holes, right?
The wonderful folks at STOP AIDS Project in San Francisco are working to inform and educate the community on issues surrounding anal cancer, HPV, and Hole Health, collaborating with public health experts and leading researchers around the country to develop awareness materials and information about anal cancer.
Gay and bisexual men are 35 times more likely to get anal cancer than the general population and those of us with HIV are 80 times more likely to get it.
Anal cancer rates among gay and bi men is similar to cervical cancer rates among women before cervical pap smears became routine. Additionally, anal cancer in gay men is four times more common than cervical cancer in women. The good new is that anal cancer is preventable and treatable if caught in time.

Few gay and bisexual men and health providers know about this important health issue. Few studies give providers clear guidance on screening and treatment. So STOP AIDS is working to help us be informed, get organized, and coordinate advocacy to access all we need to stay healthy.
