How is Joseph Taylor healthy?

Being healthy is not something I am perfect at and have completed but something I continue to strive to do each day.

I have come to believe that for me a healthy lifestyle is not just about the body but also about the mind and spirit. I take care of my body though by getting active, whether at the gym or elsewhere, and breaking a good old fashion sweat. I have found it is important when working on my body to seek out information on fitness from those with knowledge. Additionally I vary my exercise because lifting weights sometimes is just not what I am in mood to do, switching between classes of yoga and kickboxing or simply doing some Billy Banks work out routines at home can be a welcome change of pace.

Another component of taking care of my body has been being more aware of what I am putting into it. One decision I made years ago was to not consume meat and fish. I try to avoid pop, or if you prefer “soda, but I don’t cut myself off from the occasional one.  Dr. Pepper is just too good to do that!

In terms of my mind and spirit, I take time for me. This means doing things that give me pleasure; reading, visiting with friends, volunteering, and enjoying music. It seems simple but sometimes I have to remind myself that taking care of “me” has to be a priority.  One other thing I attempt to do is push my comfort zone; who I interact with, where I go, what events I attend. I think when I do this I end up being happier, healthier, and more well rounded.

Being healthy is not something I am perfect at and have completed but something I continue to strive to do each day. My definition might be different from what television or magazines say and might not be the same as my friends but it works for me.

And in the end I think that is the best way to be healthy- do you and do you well.
