How is Rod Rushing healthy?

That’s a damn good question considering so many years, so many fads… some fantastic, and some almost fatal.

But I think getting my heart pumping and my heart rate rising is probably the best thing I do for myself. I have been into cardio…. aerobics, biking, dancing, and running on and off for most of my life since my tweens.

I love living in Denver because it really lends itself to a healthy outdoor lifestyle. The mountains, the jogging paths, the bike trails, the weather, and the psychology of the city are ideal for athletes of all levels, including the off again on again ones like me.

Along with getting my heart pumping, the other thing I do to keep my ticker healthy is to engage that heart regularly by working with other people. At 50, it’s strange to think I have lived 23 years as an HIV positive man. Thus, the last 5 years I have tried to use what experience I have in supporting others in reaching some of their life goals. Somehow this action seems to give much of the past drama of my life a healthy twist. Maybe that helps keep my cholesterol in a normal range. And that’s one thing I don’t mind at all being “normal”.

  1. Very inspirational. I'm going back to your blog, turn up "This Is How We Do It," and dance around the room. Great picture.

  2. It must make sense to someone somewhere to ask a former methamphetamine addict how is he healthy. Wouldn't it be better to go with someone who has chosen health his entire life, though, not just the last few months?

  3. reading about a success story in recovery and how he stays healthy, is a lot more interesting and inspirational to me than reading about someone who's been perfect from day 1.
