Despite a rather, ummmm, not so exciting or descriptive title - "Impact on Communities of Color" - Monday morning's plenary session here at the NHPC was anything but dull or the same ole same ole.
I am used to the first major session of conferences like these being one big PowerPoint data dump and was relieved and delighted to realize it was to be a panel discussion with the likes of Robert Fullilove, Valerie Stone, Rafael Diaz, Cynthia Gomez, ManChui Leung and Bonnie Duran. The moderator, Jocelyn Dorsey from WSB-TV here in Atlanta, was essentially clueless and annoying but it didn't really matter - the panel rocked and didn't need her bad, trite, uniformed questions to engage in a meaningful, and for me, inspiring dialogue.
Everyone I talked to throughout the day experienced the same excitement and euphoria, though several folks rightly pointed out that what was lacking was the HOW... Ah yes, small matter, the HOW.... read more »
