Every year Bienestar Human Services, inc. hosts a pageant to empower the Latina Transgender community. Through this pageant, the most common concerns impacting the health and well-being of Latina Transgender women are exposed via the question and answer period and HIV/AIDS knowledge session.
HIV/AIDS prevention and care continue to be pertinent issues to the Transgender community.
This year’s theme is “Miss Bienestar 2007: Educación y Movilización Es TU Misión/Education and Mobilization is TU’s Mission” and will take place:
October 22nd, 2007 at Arena Night Club
6655 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles
from 7:00pm– 12 AM
“Transgeneros Unidas” (TU) program was created by BIENESTAR in 1997 to nurture the leadership development of the growing Transgender community and reduce their risk of HIV/AIDS through education and preventive services.
The Miss Bienestar Pageant empowers the Latina Transgender community by creating positive role models to represent their unique concerns, while simultaneously raising HIV/AIDS awareness, organizing and mobilizing. Miss Bienestar accomplishes this by:
1) Educating Transgender Latinas about HIV/AIDS
2) Building self confidence
3) Educating participants about the power of the media
4) Encouraging new leaders to take advocate roles in their communities
