Bob and Jack’s 52-Year Adventure

DOCUMENTARY ABOUT HALF-CENTURY ROMANCE WILL HAVE PREMIERE AT DC'S GAY & LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL.

PREMIERE DATE: Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Film highlights how the two gay men met in the military, how they confronted the troops in their unit and how they struggle today as an unmarried couple in their eighties.

In 1952, in Munich, an American Army sergeant began going out with his commanding officer. Their romance grew until the rumors became anonymous tips to headquarters. They avoided court-martial by confronting their entire unit. That pivotal moment cemented Bob and Jack together for the rest of their lives. 52-years later they share how they've remained a couple: how one man left his wife and children, how together they moved to a small town and became a fixture in the community, and today how they survive in their eighties without the benefits of marriage.

Bob and Jack’s 52-Year Adventure, an award winning documentary about their relationship by filmmaker Stu Maddux, will have its Washington DC premiere Saturday, October 13th at 11 AM at the Goethe Instituts as part of Reel Affirmations International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The film will be paired with the highly successful documentary Emile Norman: By His Own Design as part of a program celebrating gay "pioneers".

"People trying to find lasting love or fighting for the right to marry seem to be so encouraged by our story,” says Bob Claunch, now 82, from their home in Los Angeles, CA. " We didn’t have it easy but we didn’t give up.”

“That’s what makes the film a good message for young people too”, says partner Jack Reavley, 83. “We especially want young gay men and women to know that they can have a lasting relationship like we have despite the message out there that you can’t.”

Director Stu Maddux will be in attendance, "Gay seniors are helping me understand myself and why we as gay and lesbian people are fighting for some of the rights we don't yet have. If others walk away with a better idea of what our struggle is all about, then this documentary has been a success." The film is now available on DVD through Amazon.com and at the film's website www.bobandjack.org

Reel Affirmations International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is currently in its 17th year. Through its founding organization, One In Ten, it has grown to include a companion Pride Film Festival, nights of live comedy, educational museum-based programs, a grant program to support filmmakers, and collaborations with other arts organizations to tell the stories of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) community.
