Hey there ---
On the homepage of LifeLube there is a link to a survey on the topic of lubricants used for anal sex. I hope you will take a few hot seconds of your day and fill it out, and pass it on to others.
The survey, which is being circulated by the International Rectal Microbicide Working Group, is collecting info on the types of lubes people use, whether top or bottom, with or without condoms, that will be very helpful to scientists who are doing safety studies on over the counter sexual lubricants.
Over the counter sexual lubricants do not need to be tested for safety, nor do their makers even need to divulge the ingredients. Research that will be disseminated soon --- pay attention to this blog and to LifeLube --- indicates that some lubes commonly used for anal sex are not as safe as others. This is concerning to many folks, including me, who do gay men's health work, as well as folks who work with women who engage in anal intercourse.
Most of us never really think about safety issues when we are at the Walgreens or our local sex shop, looking for our lube. We look at how slick it is, whether it has an aroma or gets hot or whatever, but we really don't think --- hmmmm, I wonder if this is safe for my booty?
By participating in the study, you will be helping scientists prioritize the next round of over the counter sexual lubricants that need to be tested. You will also be helping provide important acceptability data to the folks working on developing a safe and effective rectal microbicide.
Please do the survey today! And forward it to all of your boy toys too!
Jim
