Shameless self-promotion for LGBTI Health Summit

Just another day at the zoo....

Which has nothing to do with this post...

So, back to the regularly scheduled program, if you are coming to LGBTI in Philly (see previous post), or are thinking about it, please come to the stuff I am doing! Link to the Summit is here. Below is info on a Pre-institute I am involved in on ADVOCACY that happens the day before the Summit starts, on Wed, March 14 (no extra cost) and below that blurb is a little thingie on a workshop I am doing with this other Jim from Fenway in Boston (which is going to be SEXY and FUN.)

------------------------------

Charm School for Activists: How to Effectively Advocate for Your LGBTI Issue (Wednesday March 14th all day)
Facilitators: Lei Chou (C.H.A.M.P.), Jim Pickett (AIDS Foundation of Chicago), and Chris Bartlett (Philadelphia)

The LGBTI health movement has developed numerous campaigns and strategies to move our agenda forward. In this Institute, you’ll work with national health advocacy leaders to see how best to mobilize the media, build a base of support you’re your issues, develop leadership, and identify the key issues to highlight. We will identify a number of key LGBTI health issues as examples, and spend time developing an advocacy strategy around each one.

Revolutionizing Sex in the New Millennium (Thursday, March 15 at 11am - 12:30pm)

with Jim Maynard & Jim Pickett

Jim Pickett is the Director of Public Policy for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, and is the chair of the International Rectal Microbicide Working Group, made up of nearly 400 advocates and scientists from 35 countries on 5 continents. Jim Maynard oversees the HIV Prevention and Education programs at the Fenway Institute in Boston as well as recruitment for HIV Vaccine Trials and other cutting edge prevention research.

Twenty six years into the AIDS pandemic, our prevention tool boxes are rather sparse, with little more than the ABC’s in them. But despair is not the answer, as there are a host of new, progressive prevention technologies being researched at this very moment. How about a “super lube” that protects against HIV? Or a pill a day to keep it away? And, hey, is there a vaccine on the horizon or what? We deserve, and must demand, more prevention options for ourselves and those we love, or lust for. In this dynamic session, the Jims will discuss rectal microbicide research, pre-exposure prophylaxis, and the latest on the vaccine front, offering concrete ways to become involved in these critical endeavors. They will also confront the tough questions wrapped up in sex, drugs, and cutting edge prevention in this not-to-be-missed workshop for the future of sex.
