Well, there are certain places where I keep them covered up. I’m not exaggerating but they can literally be traffic-stopping. I remember in Paris once I was hanging out with a fashion designer mate of mine and he’d made this top for me and it was really figure-hugging. Tearoom on Swallow Street

Thursday night if you’re in London, be sure to make your way to the aptly named Swallow Street gallery for the opening of Tearoom, an exhibition of found footage of men having sex with other men in a public restroom in a Mansfield, Ohio restroom in 1962. It was created by policemen eager to catch and prosecute gay men under the harsh Ohio sodomy laws. Police set up a two way mirror and filmed men having public sex. Many of these men went to jail for terms ranging from one to twelve years. This footage was discovered by the artist, filmmaker, and BUTT contributor William E. Jones, and was included in the BUTT video show we presented at the Tate Modern a few years back. Read the rest...

Butt Plugs for the Mantle

Tony Regazzoni is a young sculptor who makes sculptures inspired by sex, nightlife, and fetish objects. He’s been living in Paris for the past 2 years. Tony’s latest work is a series of imaginary butt plug sculptures made in enamelled clay. He has a show currently running at the Galerie ACDC until December 24th, and another coming up in the new year.

BUTT: Where did you go to school?

Tony: I was a student at the Dijon’s Art School in Burgundy and then I had a post-graduate at the ECAL, the art school of Lausanne in Switzerland.

How did you get the idea to do sculptures of imaginary butt plugs?

I wanted to create my own collection. I’m fascinated by the forms and colors of butt plugs - they’re like minimal art sculptures. All my sculptures are inspired by real butt plugs. I just changed some details and proportions.

Celebrating BUTT magazine`s fifth anniversary, this book is a selection of the most fantastic and the most ridiculous interviews and photos that have appeared in BUTT so far. This anthology also finally makes a lot of material from the now rare, earlier issues of BUTT available again. For your (in)convenience, the timeline in the book runs backwards, from the here and now all the way back to the summer of 2001, when the first issue of BUTT landed with a bang.

The man behind the legendary trilogy Kansas City Trucking Co., El Paso Wrecking Corp. and LA Tool & Die, Joe Gage is the greatest gay porn director of his generation. He’s also the first artist who dared to suggest that sex between men was more about camaraderie than romance, more about hot action than a lifestyle. While his characters were always working-class Joes, his ’70s epics became blueprints of sexual tension-building and were also stylistically innovative. By 1982, he was already an icon. Then he got married to a woman and left the business for twenty years. He had two sons, directed a play, made some non-pornographic B-movies and wrote a couple of mildly successful novels. Now at 62, he has been making gay porn again, most recently for Titan Films. To meet up with him, I drove an hour out of LA to the historic Wigwam Motel in Rialto, California, on old Route 66. He and his ‘brother’ Sam Gage, his pal and the producer of his classic movies, were kicking back in their giant teepee room having some beers.

Not to mention his co-authorship of the classic The Joy of Gay Sex… Having been an ex-pat in Paris for decades, Edmund White is now back in New York.
